Artist's Statement
The wit and fun of a narrative picture is paramount to my joy in creating it. In my “Fractions” series, the six oils were inspired by mismatched perspectives of people sharing a situation. Colour and composition express the interplay of conflicting emotions.
“Divided Dreams” shows a young man in love. He looks forward to life with the girl of his dreams. She’s not so sure. He doesn’t measure up to her memory of the father she idolised. “I look in the mirror and see that it’s me.” reflects the way we happily delude ourselves. “Releasing the joy” contrasts a spontaneous reaction to something inspirational with the preoccupations that get in the way of us living life to the full.
