Before and After: Rescuing the Past

before

Before: Chinese Peony,
Wm. Hooker, 1817

After

After: Restored to its original glory.

Museums, historical societies and heritage bodies throughout the U.K. are packed with hidden art treasures. Sadly, the public will never get to enjoy more than a fraction of them. It’s simply too expensive to restore all the flawed paintings, engravings, lithographs, textiles and other 2D artefacts in their keeping.

Good News for Heritage Organisations

Just as old audio recordings can be re-mastered to remove the hiss and crackle, so digital re-mastering can strip away yellowing, mend tears, remove creases and foxing. We can restore hues and details as originally created. Our team at Salt of the Earth (Previously Heritage Hall) has years of experience in this skilled work.

Large Works of Art

Salt of the Earth works closely with a specialist in photo-scanning large format art and other 2D works, using the same renowned Betterlight photoscan system HID (cold lighting) employed by the J. Paul Getty Museum. Works may be scanned in studio or on another site by prior arrangement. Salt of the Earth then uses the Betterlight master to print giclées.
