Artist's Statement
“Since 2003, I’ve painted mainly in oils. But during last year’s long, cold winter I felt a longing to return to the freedom of watercolour. A friend introduced me to some fabulous Russian paints, and I began making studies of flowers, drawing with a brush full of colour.
“My new work embodies the visual language and influences of 60 years of study: a love of stained glass windows; the fluidity of Art Nouveau plants; and the decorative symbolism of Hundertwasser and Klimt.
“At last, I sense that I’m about to arrive somewhere near achieving the vision long held in my heart and mind. This way of working is my future and I feel that I have ‘found myself’ as an artist.”
