Gallery Three - Mara Calvi
It’s incredible that these distinctive and highly-accomplished images are the work of a totally self-taught photographer. Mara Calvi is a stunning (yet modest) young talent of whom we can surely expect great things.

Artist's Statement
"I was born in Italy, but when I was six, we moved to Zaire. When the revolution came, we moved on to Belgium. Although I studied political science, I’ve always been intrigued by photography. About three years ago, I bought a camera and started to take pictures. Over the years, I’ve learned different techniques, and the more I learn the more I find this art fascinating.
I take a special interest in portraits/lifestyle and landscape photography. Currently, I’m working on a project involving British landscapes; I went out at night with a torch to shoot the Cornish tin mine. Although I mainly use a Canon DSLR, I also shoot on film and have a Voigtlander Bessa L with a wide-angle lens."
