Artist's Statement
“From art school onwards, most of my working life was spent on corporate, public sector and media-related graphics, including over 20 years of account directing for Manchester advertising agencies.
Retirement brought the opportunity to paint full time. Nature has always been my inspiration. I never cease to be fascinated by our weather’s atmospheric moods and its subtle effects on landscape. This can be particularly enthralling among the fells, lakes and mountains of the Lake District ,which I’ve loved and explored since childhood.
As an artist, I feel my task is simply to do my best to capture a splendid and beautiful moment and make it live on in terms of paint. I think it was Cezanne who said, “Painting from nature is not copying the object; it is realizing one’s sensations.”
