Sometimes, artists resist shedding the conventions of art school training, but watercolourist Glynis Spiers applies her own distinctive style to all her favourite subjects.

Artist's Statement
"I was born in Leicester in 1956, and grew up in Bolton and Sheffield. Although I studied Fine Art at Newcastle-upon-Tyne Polytechnic, I didn’t begin painting with watercolours until the 1990’s.
Since moving to Wales, I have enjoyed the flowing lines, constantly changing light and colour of the landscapes; I also like painting architecture, flowers and pets. Some of my work captures the vivid everyday life of shops, people and agricultural produce, such as my scene showing the greengrocer’s stall in Abergavenny Market Hall.
Impressionism, the work of J.M.W. Turner, and that of two contemporary Sheffield artists (colourist Hazel Lale and tonalist Tim Rose ) have all influenced me."
