It takes years of practice, trial and error to produce watercolours that look as loose and seemingly effortless as Ian’s. The trick is to let your hand paint what your heart holds, rather than what your eye sees…

Artist's Statement
“Drawing has been a part of my life since an early age. I studied figure drawing with the late Robert Hyde at St. Martins College of Art & Design. Painting came much later. A chance meeting with tutor and celebrated watercolourist David Green R.O.I. unlocked the pain, pleasure and occasional delight of this medium.
“Since retiring from the world of advertising, I’ve worked hard to refine my watercolour skills, and I now tutor others in my own painting classes. An ongoing love affair with Suffolk’s coastline has inspired many of my paintings, and some of my work is permanently on display at the Snape Maltings Gallery.”
