Artist's Statement

The natural world has always been a source of curiosity and fascination for me, and I’ve been lucky to indulge this interest through my art and photography. Diversity and beauty of both natural forms and colours provides the foundation for my paintings. I try to give a sense of place and activity within a frozen moment in the lives of birds, animals and insects I enjoy portraying.

I’m an amateur artist, although I did study art and design in London. Later I studied for a science degree that led me into conservation work and a very happy time in the Lake District. Now officially retired, I can repair to my studio in Sheffield to work up my ideas or walk in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside for inspiration.
