Artist's Statement

"I grew up in Finland, which has a strong tradition in industrial design. I consider myself as a designer rather than an artist, which is reinforced by my education from University of Arts and Design Helsinki where I did my Master's degree in Digital Authoring after an earlier stint in more traditional media.

The main feature of my artwork is the fusion of two different things. I am fascinated by contrast in materials, colours and textures. The Teapot series began in Summer 2009 after a visit to a fabric shop specialising in quilting. Various patterns suggested a lifestyle or mood that I immediately associated with the British tradition of a good cuppa. The images are meant to be visually pleasing and perhaps also comforting."
